Lake Mburo National Park is situated in Mbarara District at an area of 370km2. It’s centrally, with an altitude range from of 1,220m – 1,828m above sea level. The park is named after the lake which lies in this territory- lake Mburo.

Lake Mburo National Park is indeed a small park but with lots of attractions that awaits to give you a remarkable experience, for example 68 mammal species which include a very large number of Impalas -where “Kampala`s” name originated, Uganda Kobs, Ankole long horned cattle, leopards, buffaloes, hippos, spotted hyenas, oribis, topis, bushbucks, waterbucks, warthogs and recently giraffes were also reintroduced in the park.
The park also boasts of hosting over 315 bird species among which include the rare shoebill stork, red faced barbet, crested crane and papyrus yellow warbler. The vegetation of the park is mostly filled with open savannah of acacia trees, Boscia and Olea.
What to do/Activities in Lake Mburo National Park-Uganda
Lake Mburo National park features a lake in which the park`s name originated and majorly the boat cruise on Lake Mburo to enjoy the views of gigantic hippos, crocodiles and birds like pelicans, fish eagle, herons and so many other bird species. Game drives can also be conducted in this park to search for animals such as Impalas, Zebras, and giraffes among others along Kazuma or lakeside tracks. Nature bush walk safaris and bird watching, Horse riding, cycling and visit to communities and cultural sites like the Igongo cultural centre which provide good stopover to tourists.

Accessibility/How to get to Lake Mburo National Park
Lake Mburo National Park lies about 228km (3½ hrs drive) from Kampala the in western part of Uganda between the towns of Masaka and Mbarara. From the Mbarara road, two gates enter the park. The turning to Nshara gate is 13kms past Lyantonde for those approaching the park from Kampala. Sanga trading centre is also 27kms past Lyantonde and this where there is a junction for Sanga gate. Clear signposts are available on both junctions. And a drive to Rwonyo where the park headquarters are is about 20 minutes drive from either gate.
