Uganda’s most spectacular park covers 1.442kms in size, is among the most spectacular parks in Uganda, though it is not very accessible, Kidepo Valley National Park is situated in the North-East of the Uganda, in the Karamoja region, bordering Sudan and Kenya. The park lies at an altitude range between 914 m. and 2.750 m. above sea level.
The park area is made of valleys and open savanna habitat, which makes it Uganda`s prime game viewing location.

Kidepo Valley National Park is home to over 86 mammal species which include predators like lions, leopards, black backed jackal, bat eared fox, African hunting dog, caracal, cheetah and other grazing wildlife such as giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, bush pig as up to 17 species of antelopes. The park is also a birding paradise with a checklist of 463 species of birds which have been recorded including 56 raptors like Ostriches, tawny eagle, pygmy falcon, vultures and secretary bird.

Accessibility/How to get Kidepo Valley National Park in Uganda
The possible means to reach Kidepo are mainly by road and air but road transport is the most rewarding as you traverse the Manyattas (households) of the Karamajong and the beauty of Kidepo itself is a wide unspoiled wilderness. However 4WD vehicles are very essential as the roads to reach the park are generally not the best.
Mainly, four possible routes can help you to reach the park by road. Routes from Kampala via Mbale pass to the east of Lake Kyoga to reach northern Uganda; one can pass the west via Karuma.
- From Kampala – Karuma – Gulu – Kitgum – Kidepo = 571kms
- From Kampala – Karuma – Lira – Kotido – Kidepo = 705kms
- From Kampala – Mbale – Sironko – Kotido – Kaabong – Kidepo = 740kms
- From Kampala – Mbale – Soroti – Moroto – Kidepo = 792kms
Visitors should note that the road mainly in use from Kotido to Kabong passes via Kanawat as indicated on most maps. Enquire at Kotido. It is necessary to first seek for up-to-date information about the road conditions.
Aero link Uganda, usually organizes scheduled flights to Kidepo from Entebbe International Airport. These flights are scheduled for every Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
